Welcome to Kopi Music
Kopi Kopenhagen is a Music Teacher and Performing Artist. Rock is great, Jazz & Salsa are great; when you put them together ... even better! Such is Kopi Kopenhagen. Multi-lingual, world-traveled/toured, well respected.
Music Teacher
As a Music Teacher Kopi is the essence of patience and goal-achievement. Students know WHY they're there, and HOW to get where they're going ... cultivating and/or enhancing passion and motivation is Kopi's main focus, for he knows that only from said things will the student want to invest time into music (or anything for that matter!). Kopi balances all things, with an emphasis on what the student enjoys, and what the student MAY enjoy if exposed to. Rock, Jazz, Salsa, Funk, Hip Hop, Reggae, Blues ... you name it; it is taught/learned. All ages, levels, and with plenty of references, both parental and from adult students. You WILL succeed ;-)
Performing Artist
Kopi Kopenhagen (Matthew Thomas Koechlin; Kopi's Facebook) is a multi-instrumentalist music producer from Louisville, KY. Moving to Dunedin, FL with his family at only seven weeks old, Kopi grew up in Pinellas County. When faced with the choice of taking karate or guitar at the age of 11 or 12, Kopi chose guitar; the summer of 1994 would turn out to be a special summer, as Kopi started skateboarding and playing guitar.
Dunedin, FL is/was similar to St. Pete, FL in that punk rock is quite a musical staple. Being around four older siblings (the oldest being fourteen years older!), Kopi was influenced by 80s dance music; as he "came of age," he was taken from his Boys to Men and otherwise "pop on MTV" phase directly into Nirvana, Bad Religion, NOFX, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and more at the age of 11. He would go on to play shows at State Theatre and Joe Mocha's in St. Pete, and frequent live shows that were being played by local ska/punk bands such as Lame, Tunnel, Slinky, My Pal Trigger and more.
Kopi took classical and metal guitar lessons from Brian Forrestal at Jim Terry Music in Clearwater, FL as well Jazz lessons with Mike Marth at Thoroughbred Music (now Sam Ash). After graduating from UCF in Orlando with a Bachelors in Psychology, Kopi joined Revere with Matt Bennett and Conrad Petzinger. Revere toured Japan in 2005, and when Revere disbanded, Kopi moved to Japan for what would become four years (2206 - 2010), teaching English in public schools and private music lessons as well. Kopi studied under Alberto Garcia from the Canary Islands (Spain) before moving back to the states and studying with Peter Montgoya/Hogsholm.
Kopi Kopenhagen is now back in Pinellas County playing drums in Touch the Sky, guitar/vox in Revere (which reformed), making his own salsa / rock influenced music under "Kopi Kopenhagen," teaching lessons, gigging in Ybor, at churches and working with the developmentally disabled.
Kopi Kopenhagen drummed for Laurier Tiernan in Tokyo (who just released a new album with Kopi on drums). Kopi started a band named Ten 13 Concept (later to become T13C, and now, Of Valleys) when he first started playing drums in 2001. Kopi started Ten 13 Concept with Joe Loffredo, a roommate of his at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL. Kopi named it "Concept" because of his conceptual, psychological thinking (he majored in Psychology), and 1013 was their apartment number at University Club/House in Orlando, FL. Kopi left the band because, in his opinion, he outgrew them talent-wise (in his time in the band, he went from a fledgling drummer to a fullon pimp; lol. citation needed). Here is a video of Ten 13 Concept, which again, went on to be called T13C; they were flown to California to play live at Regis Philbin's AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.
Kopi's YouTube Channel, containing footage from Dunedin skateboarding (since 1994), Ten 13 Concept (now T13C; a band that Kopi and the singer Joe Loffredo founded while at UCF in Orlando in 2002/2003, Revere in Japan, Revere in the USA, and so much random good/funny footage.

Long story short, Kopi Kopenhagen is an international Guitarist, Drummer, Music Producer, Performer, and Writer/Compser, creating cutting edge pop, punk rock, latin jazz, jazz, and more (he just touched down in Tampa Bay after a stint in Brooklyn and 4 years in Japan). He creates his own music on all instruments, while also playing in various bands. His last full length album, Ashita Manana, is a blend of rock, punk rock, and believe it or not, Latin Jazz. Currently his tastes have swung back around to a more down-to-earth approach at music writing ... metal's power, pop's universal acceptance, and a style that you know right away is Kopi Kopenhagen.
Kopi Kopenhagen is a busy musician, so please stay up-to-date with Kopi's Myspace, and Kopi's YouTube Channel.
